Release Date: 04-08-2020Bangor and Presque Isle, Maine — With heavy, wet snow and high winds forecast to move into northern and eastern Maine on Thursday, Emera Maine is preparing crews and support staff for a safe and prompt response to any weather-related power outages. “We are continuing to monitor the forecast, but we expect the spring nor’easter to affect our entire service territory,” said Steve Sloan, Emera Maine storm manager. “We will have extra crews on overnight Thursday and be ready to make any repairs that are needed into Friday morning. We understand that many of our customers are observing ‘stay safe at home’ protocols, and we will not stop working until all affected customers are reconnected.” For the last few weeks, Emera Maine crews have taken extra precautions as part of COVID-19 prevention efforts while continuing to perform work on the electrical system. Observation of these important protocols is not expected to affect crews’ response to storm-related outages. To keep our crews and our customers safe, members of the public are asked to continue following social distancing recommendations and give Emera Maine workers safe space to do their essential work. Customers are reminded to be mindful of the following safety hazards: NEVER touch a downed power line or a tree in contact with one. It is never safe to move lines out of the way or drive over the top of them. It is not possible to tell if a line is energized simply by looking at it. Protect yourself and those engaged in restoration work by following manufacturer guidelines when installing and using alternate heat sources or generators. Be sure generators and space heaters are well ventilated, as these devices can generate carbon monoxide. Customers with special medical needs are encouraged to create a plan to follow if power to their home is interrupted for a period of time. Keep flashlights and fresh batteries handy, and make sure you have a supply of clean water and nonperishable foods at home.
