Emera Maine planning response to snow and ice storm on Sunday

Release Date:  01-10-2020

Bangor and Presque Isle, Maine — A full complement of Emera Maine line crews will be ready to address any outages over the weekend as a major winter storm is expected to bring snow, rain, sleet and ice to northern and eastern Maine. Local contract crews, tree crews and other support staff also will be in place to assist with repairs and restorations.

“We anticipate a range of precipitation across our service territory beginning Saturday night, and we will continue following the weather forecast closely over the weekend to ensure we have the right resources in place,” said Allison Doughty, Emera Maine storm manager. “We urge the public to stay safe by preparing for the possibility of power outages as well as difficult travel conditions.”

Customers are reminded to be mindful of the following safety hazards:

  • NEVER touch a downed power line or a tree in contact with one. It is never safe to move lines out of the way or drive over the top of them. It is not possible to tell if a line is energized simply by looking at it.

  • Protect yourself and those engaged in restoration work by following manufacturer guidelines when installing and using alternate heat sources or generators. Be sure generators and space heaters are well ventilated, as these devices can generate carbon monoxide.

  • Slow down or move over and change lanes, when possible, if approaching utility crews working on roadways.

  • Customers with special medical needs are encouraged to create a plan to follow if power to their home is interrupted for a period of time.

Keep flashlights and fresh batteries handy, and make sure you have a supply of clean water and nonperishable foods at home.

Customers can report outages directly through their Online Services account, by using Emera Maine’s online Power Issue Report Form, or by calling our Customer Contact Center at 1-855-363-7211 or 207-973-2000.
