Emera Maine to Modernize Customer Information System

Emera Maine is modernizing its customer information system in the Bangor Hydro District early this summer. We are replacing an outdated system with one that can keep up with today’s technology needs. What does this mean for customers?

New Account Number

Bangor Hydro District customers will receive a new account number on their first bill from the new system. Previous account numbers will remain in the system for a period of time to ensure smooth transition. We encourage customers to always use their most current account number for payments or services related to their electric bill.

Distribution Rate Breakout

Emera Maine will be able to offer greater transparency on customer bills. Two components of the Distribution Rate – Stranded Costs and Conservation –  will be broken out and listed separately. These are not new charges, simply a breakout of items that have historically been a part of the bill.

  • Stranded Costs are energy supply obligations resulting from State policies and programs.
  • Conservation funds energy efficiency programs offered by Efficiency Maine Trust.
