Release Date: 10-22-2014Emera Maine’s Storm Response Team is keeping a close eye on a storm that’s expected to bring wind gusts along the coast of up to 45 miles per hour along with heavy rain and potential flooding. The Team is readying trucks, stock and rain gear as well as crews for the possibility of power outages. “The storm is expected to have the greatest impact from about 8:00 tonight until noon Thursday, and we anticipate isolated weather related power outages throughout the day today,” said Lisa Martin, Manager of Line & Meter Operations. “Wet, heavy leaves can weigh on tree limbs causing them to break and fall into power lines. Soft ground conditions also contribute to the potential for damage to the power system if nearby trees lose their footing.” Customers are reminded to stay clear of fallen power lines and trees near or touching them. It’s also a wise idea to secure loose objects. Locating account numbers in advance can help speed up the reporting process. Anyone using alternate heat and power sources is reminded to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines. The Storm Response Team will continue to monitor the storm’s track and modify staffing plans as needed. Customers can get the latest outage information and view our live outage map at emeramaine.com.
